Good campaign measurement starts with a business outcome. Clicks show initial interest; increasing a budget requires a clearer view of orders, lead quality and the cost of reaching the right people.

Define the result before launching

Choose one primary outcome for each campaign: a completed order, a qualified enquiry or a consultation booking. Agree on what makes an enquiry qualified so that a passing question is not treated as a sales opportunity. For stores, distinguish a submitted order from a paid or delivered order, according to how the business operates.

Check the journey before trusting the report

Follow a test journey from the landing page to the expected result. Check links, duplicate tracking and whether the source of the visit is retained. Google Analytics documents ecommerce events for specific actions, including adding an item to a cart and purchasing. Having an event configured does not prove that it fires correctly; test the action itself.

Keep the scorecard small

  • Spend during a consistent reporting period.
  • Qualified outcomes, using the definition agreed by the team.
  • Cost per outcome: spend divided by outcomes, when the count is greater than zero.
  • Order value and status, including cancellations and returns.
  • A short record of changes made to the advertisement or landing page.

Advertising return is not the same as profit. Product costs, delivery and operations also affect the commercial result. Advertising platforms and store reports may differ because their attribution methods and recording times differ.

Turn an observation into a test

If visits arrive without orders, review the match between the advertisement and the landing page, then check the purchase journey. Change a specific element, record when it changed and compare reasonably similar periods. One unusual day or one conversion is a weak basis for a major budget decision.

When should I increase spend?

After checking measurement, result quality and the business’s ability to fulfil demand. There is no single increase that suits every project.
